A pesquisa será qualitativa, com abordagem exploratória e descritiva, envolvendo levantamento bibliográfico, análise documental de casos emblemáticos, entrevistas com especialistas e estudo comparado de experiências internacionais. Espera-se contribuir para a sistematização de conhecimentos, proposição de diretrizes regulatórias e fortalecimento da cultura de diálogo na gestão ambiental brasileira, assim como, propor uma capacitação em mediação ambiental para os agentes públicos. ABSTRACT: Environmental conflict mediation emerges as an effective alternative to litigation in the face of growing environmental degradation and the socioeconomic impacts generated by human activities. The focus of this study is the mediation of environmental conflicts in Brazil, especially in protected areas, disputes over water resources, and the licensing of polluting projects. The central problem lies in the traditional legal system’s inability to provide swift and effective responses to complex socio-environmental disputes, compounded by procedural delays, high costs, and difficulties in reconciling multiple interests. Environmental mediation, although still in its infancy, can be institutionalized as an effective practice for consensual resolution, promoting ecological justice, social participation, and the enforcement of socio-environmental rights. The general objective is to analyzemediation as a democratic instrument for conflict resolution, identifying its normative foundations, practical challenges, and possibilities for institutionalization. The specific objectives include investigating the types of environmental conflicts and their actors, examining the applicable legal framework, evaluating national and international experiences, identifying obstacles to implementation, and proposing guidelines for its consolidation as public policy. The research will be qualitative, with an exploratory and descriptive approach, involving a bibliographic survey, documentary analysis of emblematic cases, interviews with experts, and a comparative study of international experiences.
